WHY JAWSTOO?
MORE THAN 40 YEARS ON THE GULF. AND A HELL OF A LOT OF FISH STORIES.
HE KNEW HOW TO FIND FISH. HE KNEW HOW TO WORK A CROWD.
Captain Dave Mistretta spent decades on the Gulf, earning a reputation as one hell of a fisherman along the way.
Over the years, thousands of customers came from around the world to fish with him. His fishing appeared on nationally televised shows and in major fishing publications, and for more than 20 years readers followed his fishing columns in the Tampa Bay Times.
More importantly, he could work a boat, work a bite and work a crowd. His enthusiasm was contagious. The stories were plentiful. And when the fish turned on, everybody aboard knew it.
They came back because Dave made it a day worth remembering.
BIG BOAT.
BIG WATER.
BUILT TO RUN.
JawsToo fishes from a 40-foot Dorado Bluewater Series Sportfish — one of the larger fishing charter boats at the dock.
That extra room matters. For example, there’s space to fish, space to move when the bite turns on, and room for up to six passengers without spending the day climbing over one another.
At the same time, the Dorado is built to run and is one of the faster charter boats at the dock. When you’re heading offshore, we’d rather spend your day fishing than spend it getting there.
NINE TIMES SECOND. THEN HE BROUGHT HOME THE CROWN.
King of the Beach is part of Indian Rocks Beach fishing culture — a spring-and-fall kingfish tournament where the leaderboard matters.
Of course, Captain Dave knew that leaderboard well.
Nine times second. Nine times close enough to taste it.
Eventually, then came this fish. The one in this photograph.
“IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SMILE.”— DAVE MISTRETTA
Find the fish. Fight the fish. Bring it home.
Bring the smile home.
King of the Beach was one chapter in more than four decades of JawsToo tournament competition.
SERIOUS FISHING. WITHOUT TAKING OURSELVES TOO SERIOUSLY.
He loved this job.
The knowledge mattered. The boat mattered. Knowing how and where to fish mattered.
Just as importantly, so did making sure the people who stepped aboard had a damn good day while they were out there.
Today, that’s still part of the JawsToo DNA.
Experienced anglers. Kids catching their first serious fish. Families. Friends. People who simply want one unforgettable day on the Gulf.
LAUGH A LOT. COME BACK WITH STORIES.
THE STORIES ARE STILL COMING IN. THEY JUST DIDN’T START YESTERDAY.
Long before this website, people were already telling the JawsToo story. In fact, These are a few words preserved from the old site — from people who fished with Dave, knew the boat and knew what a day aboard JawsToo felt like.
“Have fished with the JawsToo for over 2 decades. You will catch fish on this boat. Be ready.”
“Nobody knows those waters better than Dave.”
“Let experience be your guide! Dave’s the best!”
“Captain Dave is very knowledgeable and a great guy.”
“Had the times of our lives.” “Very friendly very knowledgeable.”
WHAT DAVE BUILT DIDN’T END WITH DAVE.
David grew up aboard JawsToo — not studying a business he might someday inherit, but living it.
The water. The customers. The work. The stories. And the standard his dad put behind the name.
Then, when David took the helm in 2021, he wasn’t trying to recreate Captain Dave.
NOW YOU KNOW WHY JAWSTOO.
